My Scraps & More Sketch #100

Wow, 100 sketches!! If it weren't for you, our followers, we would have never made it to this many sketches. So thank you all so much for your continued participation and support! For our awesome milestone, we have a sketch from the very talented Laura Whitaker. Before we get to her sketch, let's get to know her a little better.

I am a stay at home mom, with 3 boys and a puppy. My husband and I have been married for 27 years, and we live in Hamilton, Ontario. I began scrapbooking about 12 or 13 years ago, mostly to create Lifebooks for our foster children at the time. A couple of years after that, I began creating albums for our family too, and that is when I truly immersed myself in the hobby. Aside from scrapbooking, I like to crochet, dabble in home decor. I spend the summers in our trailer up north where we swim, boat, have camp fires and hang out with friends and craft (well I do, while my husband fishes after dinner and my youngest plays with his friends). I don’t have a set time of the day to craft; I just create whenever I can. I also enjoy creating class and kits for the store that I design for.

I belong to a few design teams; an online store (ScrapMuch?), a kit club (Boys Rule) and a small Canadian manufacturer (Evalicious), and run a sketch challenge site (Stuck?!), as well. I love to try out new techniques and consider my style mostly clean with a love for layers. I have a passion for patterned paper and fun dimensional embellishments.

Usually, when I create a sketch, I sit and try to create a few at a time. Most often I start with an idea of how many photos that I want to include and play around with my go to shapes until it feels done. Sometimes I will create a sketch based on a layout that I have recently created.

My favourite products and techniques are patterned paper (many patterns on a page, I do not use a lot of cardstock), water colour paints, masks, Mr. Huey’s mist, buttons (I rarely do a page without buttons) and smaller scale photos because I really like ‘'”white space”.
